FUEL FILTER CHANGING WORKSHOPS
A hands-on filter changing workshop at the Oasis... We'll have you change your fuel filter so you know exactly how to do it, and we'll be there to instruct you the whole way.
Berkeley Biodiesel Collective, Biodiesel 101
Have questions about biodiesel? The Berkeley Biodiesel Collective offers informational meetings on the first Monday of most months. Check the BBC web site for details.
MONTHLY FUEL FILTER CHANGING WORKSHOPS [back to top]
Next workshop is Sunday, June 1st 12:00pm - 3:00pm, $20
BioFuel Oasis, 2465 4th Street at Dwight, Berkeley
Come into the shop or call during business hours (510-665-5509) to sign up for a 1/2 hour time slot and to pay the $5.00 deposit to hold your appointment. We'll put you on the schedule and send you an email reminder. Please be sure to call and let us know if you have to cancel - we turn people away when the schedule fills up.
If you are not ready to change your filter but want to see how it is done you can make an appointment to come and watch us change the filter on a vehicle that is similar to your own.
What should I bring? We sell filters for 1977 - 1985 240D and 300 series Mercedes. We also sell filters for 2000 and newer VW TDIs, except for 2006 + Jettas; those must be purchased from the dealer. Please bring your own fuel filter if you have a different model car. If you have them please bring a couple screwdrivers, and possibly a clamp or visegrips and an oil/fuel drip pan. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting stained.
How do I know it's time to change my fuel filter?
If you've just switched to running 100% biodiesel, we recommend waiting at least a month or two before changing your fuel filter. If you've been running 100% biodiesel for months (years?), it's a good thing to proactively change your fuel filter every 3-6 months, so you don't end up having to do it on the road. If it's time to change it, ask us to sign up for this workshop.
No stinking diesel please!
And please don't have any petro diesel fuel in your car if you are changing your fuel filter at the workshop. To insure this, don't run any petro diesel for at least two tankfuls before the workshop. We just don't want to touch or deal with disposing of toxic diesel fuel.
